How to comply

Step by step

  1. Confirm the building is larger than 50,000 sq ft within Indianapolis city limits — the threshold is exclusive, so exactly 50,000 sq ft is not covered (Revised Code § 710-102).

  2. Benchmark the building in ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager and enter 12 months of whole-building energy data.

  3. Respond to the city's data request before June 1 each year; request a 30-day extension in writing at least 30 days before the deadline if you need one (up to two extensions available).
